Before any workpiece can be turned, it must first be safely mounted onto the lathe.

There are two main ways to mount a workpiece on the lathe:

> Between centres

> Faceplate mounting

Between Centres

With this method, we support the workpiece at both ends using the drive centre which is held in the headstock and the tail centre which is held in the tail stock.

This method of mounting the workpiece is used to create objects such as table legs, lamp stands and stair banisters

Faceplate Mounting

With this method, the workpiece is attached to the faceplate using screws. There is no need to use the tailstock while face plate turning

We can create objects such as bowls, plates or cups while face plate turning
